Comment: I was assigned to the 56th Combat Support Group from September 1968 until August 1969. I was assigned to work in CBPO and was one of two administrative specialist in Personnel. Remember all the 12 hour shifts and late hours at the NCO Club. I met and worked with a group of dedicated people while there at NKP. I remember Colonel Patrick Fallon (Vice Wing Commander) being lost on July 4th of 1969. What a true hero having served in WWII, The Korean War, and Vietnam. Sewed my SSgt strips on 1 July 1969 and was discharged on August 24, 1969. I have truly been blessed and feel a sense of pride in what we were able to accomplish. |

Comment:
I worked in the Airborne Nav Aids shop, maintaining the Nav systems on the A-26s, T-28s, C-123s, U-6s, U-10s, . We operated out of a PacVan, with the Comm shop in the next Van. I arrived as a A2C 3-Level, with no M-16 qualification - a notably poor set of quals. I did earn my 5-level, and got promoted to A1C, my "then" image was taken after I got promoted. We didn't have a clothing sales store yet, so I didn't have any new stripes to wear - it was a "Badge of honor," because all of a sudden, rank didn't matter. I spent a my early time on day shift until i earned my chops, then I worked nights, often alone. Nights were the best in the winter, because our van was heated, while our hootches were open air. Wasn't too bad in the summer either, because it was also air conditioned. |

I wish I could have come to the reunion however, family illness prevented that. I was at NKP from May '69 thru April '70 and was assigned to Det. 5, 621 TCS (Invert), as a radar tech. |
