Comment: Assigned NKP April 65 thru 66 . Approximately fifty airman was the first PCS troops at NKP replaced TDY mostly from Shaw AFB. Group consisted off 1-Major Base Commander 3-MSgts 3-TSgts. I was the NCOIC of Logistics Supply ,Fuels, Procurement,TMO and Ariel Port. other two MSgts were Security Police and Dinning Hall.TSgts were NCOIC Civil Enginers, Operations and Motort Pool.. 1-SSgt and A2c was in the Clinic. At this time we had 3-HH43B Helicopters and the Radar Site. We started as a bare base and with limited facilities and equipment. We had two Helicopter Air Crews to Activate Det 1 38th ARRS Squardon and one crew was shoot down in Sept 65 and spent 7 1/2 years as POWS. I met some mighty fine people and all worked as a team regrardless of the AFSC..My Military asignments were Germany, Alaska, Korea, Stayioned in Texas, Alabama Washington, Fourteen years in Air Training Command' Retired with 28 Years Military CMSgt and 15 Yeras civil servce. IThe Air Force was my second family and met some of the nicest people in thw world

Comment: 606th SOS, Candlesticks, C-123K Crew Chief, August 70 - 71. Born and raised in Newport, Vermont. Worked 14 years in agribusiness and entered the ministry at age 40. Retired from ministry in 2012 (Pastor of Grace Brethren Church, Saratoga Springs, NY) and moved to Mount Joy, PA (Lancaster County) in 2012 to be near grandchildren. I worked for Cox Automotive (Manheim Auto Auction) in Manheim, PA and retired from MAA (Post Sale Inspection/Arbitration Dept) in December of 2020. Still active in our local church.
