In late 2018 we started putting a reunion together for anyone who served at NKP. We met at the National Museum of the Air Force in Dayton, Ohio and had 133 people show up. We are now working on the second reunion that will be in Ft Walton Beach near Hurlburt Field where the Air Commandos trained and A-1 pilots did their thing to get prepared for Vietnam or Thailand. As a 1 term airman I served 29 months in Southeast Asia at NKP, DaNang and Takhli from 1970-1973 with a three month break after the first two years only to be sent to Takhli TDY. All in all it was worth every day I was in the Air Force and really came to be proud to be able to work on A-1's as a gun mechanic with the heroic pilots doing everything they could to make sure everyone possible could be brought home during their rescue efforts. |
