Comment:
Arrived at NKP in August 1967. Assigned to the 23rd TASS as a Parachute Rigger. I was the only rigger assigned to the squadron. I worked in the Base Parachute Shop. I had the honor of packing a parachute used in an emergency bailout by one of our aircrew members. His name was Capt. T..J. Owen and the date was April 1,1968. During my tour of duty as a parachute rigger, I was asked if I would work in the munitions section of the squadron, as they needed help in the area of uploading and downloading rockets and flares on the O2A"s. I was put on OJT for the job, and I qualified in all the needed area's of the job. To my surprize, Everything went along very smoothly during this time. I left NKP in August of 1968 with fond memories of my tour plus I also was promoted to Staff Sargeant. Operations were at a real rapid pace during this time of the TET Offensive. My next duty assignment after NKP was Mildenhall AB, England |

Comment:
I was born and raised in Central Florida, (Volusia County). When I graduated High School, I joined the Air Force in February 1969 and completed my years. I was at Clark AB, PI, '69-'70, then to Ellsworth AFB, Rapid City, SD, '71 and finished at NKP RTAFB, Thailand '72.While at NKP I was assigned to the 56th SPS Squadron (81150). I was an E-4 and worked in various positions, including Perimeter Security SupervisorIt, FlightlineSecurity Supervisor, CSC and Balance Pressure System. It was amazing to me the bond that could be made in such a short time with the Brothers I worked and was stationed with. When I left the Air Force I went to work with the Florida Highway Patrol, and later transfered to Motor Carrier Compliance. I spent almost 33 years with State Law Enforcement in Florida. I retired as a Major. My wife Elizabeth and I then moved to Pikeville, TN where we currently reside. |
